In 2009 the National Poisons Information Centre was appointed as the body responsible for receiving information relating to emergency health response under Article 45 of EU Regulation 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures (CLP regulations). This information should include the chemical composition of mixtures placed on the market and classified as hazardous on the basis of their health or physical effects.
The Centre provides a 24 hour service and many cases of poisoning occur outside office hours. It is vital that the centre has immediate access to accurate product information at all times. Although many companies have made their SDS available on-line, these often do not contain the detailed information we need to give advice on the treatment of poisoning. Manufacturers can help us to give the correct advice about their products by registering complete product information with us.
Companies can send us product information in digital format by post or e-mail (Word, rtf, or pdf files). This will be stored on a password protected document management system. Any information identified by a manufacturer as confidential will only be used to provide medical advice on the treatment of poisoning.
Please contact us if you wish to use the Poisons Centre telephone number on product safety data sheets or labels.
